Kelly Law Offices, LLC is a boutique estate planning law firm that was founded in 2009 by a Father and Son attorney team. The father, Thomas Kelly Jr., had worked as a Certified Financial Planner (CFPR) for many years before attending law school at night and passing the New Jersey bar exam. The son, Thomas Kelly III, had been in practice for several years with larger firms, working on several high-profile cases around the world.
When a family member became terminally ill, both attorneys realized that despite their own education, training and experience, neither of them had adequately prepared for the guaranteed eventuality of sickness or death. Over a period of several months discussion ensued, during which it was concluded that clients avoid the obvious need to get their affairs in order for a variety of reasons. Procrastination, fear, and misunderstanding all lead people to avoid having frank discussions about their estate plans.
Complicating matters is the fact that many people who take the initiative to complete the planning process either do so incorrectly or with improper advice. The results can be disastrous, causing undue angst for relatives who are left to pick up the pieces, and/or costing untold dollars in unnecessarily wasted taxes.
The need for a trusted team of estate planning advisors was clear. The attorneys of Kelly Law Offices, LLC, work closely with clients to explain the estate planning process and to make sure that clients understand and approve of the plan being put into place. Legal jargon is explained in plain English and complex planning documents are broken down and carefully reviewed. Wherever possible, Kelly Law Offices, LLC attempts to work hand-in-hand with a client’s financial advisors as part of a team planning effort. For our older clients, we remain mindful of long-term care needs and other concerns.
